President Yameen Abdul Gayoom departs for China in an official visit، today.
President departed for China sometime in the afternoon today، his trip will last for two days according to President’s Office.
According to President Office’s spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali، President Yameen’s trip to China is in order to attend two separate ceremonies held in the country، however Mr. Muaz had not disclosed any details of the mentioned ceremonies.
In another development، it is reported that President Yameen will be attending the China South Asia Exposition and Kunmin Import and Export Fair، both taking place in Kunmin، in Yunnan province of China.
President Yameen will be a keynote speaker in one of these ceremonies. The trip marks President Yameen visiting China for the second time since he formally took office.
President Yameen’s second trip to China comes amid various China-backed projects have been initiated in Maldives، which had preceded with the two countries bonding over and strengthening their relations. The friendship cemented even further when Maldives announced it will be supporting and participating in China’s Maritime Silk Route project.
