Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) Managing Director Fathimath Ashan on Wednesday urged politicians, including Members of Parliament, to stop calling and texting FSM staff regarding internal matters.
Ashan made the remarks during a session of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, where she appeared alongside Chief Operating Officer Mohamed Murad.
Kelaa MP Abdulla Shareef (PNC) had earlier questioned the high demand for FSM jobs, noting that employees earning MVR 30,000 were suddenly appearing wealthy, and that MPs were receiving increasing calls from constituents seeking employment at FSM.
Ashan responded firmly, stating that political interference was obstructing the company’s ability to operate transparently and take disciplinary action.
“I think we’ll be able to fix this once the requests stop. Everyone around this table can help,” she said, addressing committee members.
She added that FSM is undergoing major reforms, and that dismissals and police referrals should proceed without interference.

“No one should call us. If we want to fire someone or file a case with police, we’d rather no one even text us,” Ashan said.  
“We’re the two people running the company. There’s no reason for any politician to call us!”
Ashan said FSM had ended the previous practice of changing staff based on phone calls. She noted that overstaffed vessels are being downsized and monitored in line with Ministry of Transport regulations.
FSM, a subsidiary of State Trading Organization (STO), is one of the Maldives’ largest oil service providers. The company has faced multiple allegations of fuel theft and money laundering. A major case last year led to the dismissal of several executives and staff.
Barge crews have long been accused of accumulating unexplained wealth, with some reportedly earning far beyond their official salaries.
