The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a significant MVR 263 million project to construct a causeway connecting the islands of Madifushi, Dhiyamigili, and Ufuriyaa in Thaa Atoll.
The agreement was officially signed by State Minister Hassan Rasheed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee, representing the company.
According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the causeway contract, valued at MVR 262,983,879.36, is expected to be completed within 1.5 years.
The extensive project involves several key components:
Land Reclamation: 3.9 hectares of land will be dredged between Dhiyamigili and Madifushi to facilitate their connection.
Causeway Connections:
A 143.3-meter causeway will link Medhafushi and Mathidhoo.
A 978.2-meter causeway will connect Mathidhoo and Madifushi.
Finally, a 200.6-meter causeway will establish the connection between Madifushi and Ufuriyaa.
In addition to this major undertaking in Thaa Atoll, MTCC has also been contracted to construct a causeway between Muli and Naalaafushi in Meemu Atoll, further expanding their infrastructure development efforts across the Maldives.
