President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the National Boating Association of the Maldives (NBAM) executive committee members and senior officials.
During the discussion held at the president’s office, had in-depth discussions about the growth and administration of the Maldives’ boating sector. In order to strengthen human resources in the boating industry, the NBAM members explained to the President the difficulties they encounter, such as the lack of a dedicated harbor for mooring large vessels.
Moreover, they also emphasized the necessity for an internationally recognized crew development program. Other concerns brought up by the members include the challenges of using sea vessels as collateral for loans, the difficulties of running international cruise lines in the Maldives, and the requirement for a national resource management plan to make the country’s natural resources more accessible to all. The absence of an office space also is a concern among NBAM’s executive committee members.
At response to concerns of NBAM, President Solih stated that the “Dhiyanaru” lagoon in Kaafu Atoll’s adjacent lagoon had been designated particularly for docking purposes and that the required land reclamation would start in November of this year. Furthermore, the President assured that the administration will discuss with the relevant ministries and stakeholders to come up with solutions to the problems brought up during the discussion.
NBAM, previously known as the Liveaboard Association of Maldives was established in 2007.
