Japan donates facial recognition system to Maldives to strengthen border control

The Japanese government officially handed over a state‑of‑the‑art facial recognition system to the Maldives.
Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko presented the equipment to the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, who received it on behalf of the island nation.
The new system, donated by Japan, is expected to further bolster Maldives’ border‑control capabilities and expedite identity verification for travellers, according to the Maldives Immigration Department.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Ihusaan, Ambassador Rumiko, Controller General of Immigration Ahmed Faseeh and other senior immigration officials.
The Maldives government expressed gratitude for the assistance and continued support from Japan in deepening their mutual security ties.
