The Surgery Department of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) has successfully performed a Laparoscopic Transabdominal Preperitoneal Repair (TAPP) surgery in April, as announced by the hospital.
The surgery was performed to treat a right-sided indirect inguinal hernia. The hospital confirmed that this procedure was carried out entirely by KRH’s surgical team without external assistance.
According to KRH, this surgery marks a significant milestone for the hospital, and they plan to further enhance their surgical services building upon this success. The historic surgery was led by Dr. Sharad Bahadur Adhikari, supported by a specialized team including anesthesiologists, surgeons, medical officers, nurses, and the entire operation theater staff.
This achievement represents a significant advancement in healthcare services in the region, as it demonstrates the hospital’s capability to perform complex procedures locally. The successful completion of such surgeries locally will reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment.
KRH has announced that based on this success, they have plans to conduct more such surgeries in the future. This development is particularly significant for the healthcare sector’s progress in the region, as it makes advanced surgical procedures more accessible to the local community.
The hospital emphasized that this achievement will serve as a foundation for expanding their surgical capabilities and introducing more advanced procedures in the future, ultimately improving healthcare accessibility for the region’s population
