MVR 500,000 allocated from Fitr Zakat to aid Gaza

The Maldivian government has allocated MVR 500,000 from this year's Fitr zakat to support children in Gaza.
Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed announced on social media that MVR 4,500 has been deposited as zakat for each individual on the country's poor and needy register.
With 2,765 people currently on the list, a total of MVR 12.4 million has been distributed this year.
In addition to this, the government has set aside MVR 500,000 for providing food to children in Gaza.
As part of the zakat collected in wheat, 15 kg of wheat was given to each poor person in Male'.
The government has implemented a system to ensure equal distribution of zakat across all registered recipients, in an effort to establish to establish social justice.
Previously, zakat collected from individual islands was distributed among the poor on that island, sometimes resulting in larger amounts being distributed in some islands.
Minister Shaheem has emphasized that under the current system, the entire country is treated as one, ensuring equalized zakat distribution.
