Two Chinese technology-based companies have clashed over a WiFi (wireless) router with a special setting for pregnant women.
Chinese based، Qihoo 360 had unveiled the device، an upgrade to an already existing one، which has three specific settings، which it describes on the company’s website as wall penetration، balance and “pregnant women.”
According to the firm، the third setting reduces the radiation emitted from the router by 70%. However، their new device comes under the gun، when regional tech-giant of late Xiaomi، accuses Qihoo of “scaremongering.”
“The so-called pregnancy mode is just a marketing tactic. Wi-fi usage is safe، so please rest assured when using it،” the Chinese smartphone maker، said on its social media page.
The two firms are considered fierce regional-level rivals، and Xiaomi، meanwhile had launched their own wireless router which offers six terabytes of storage and high-speed connections، but does not include Qihoo’s “controversial” setting.
In the meantime، there is growing concerns of health issues، from electromagnetic signals such as WiFi on humans.
According to BabySafe Wireless Project، a US-based campaign group، the wireless radiation does pose a risk to pregnant women and their unborn babies. However، the WHO says the evidence so far does not support the claims.
“The overall weight of evidence shows that exposure to fields at typical environmental levels does not increase the risk of any adverse outcome such as spontaneous abortions، malformations، low birth weight، and congenital diseases،” said WHO، on their website.
