Strong internal audits are crucial for local councils to operate well, says Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar.
He made the remark on Tuesday morning at the opening of the Local Councils Internal Audit Conference – held by the Local Government Authority (LGA) in collaboration with the Internal Audit Association of Maldives (IAA).
Addressing the conference, Adam Shareef stressed the need for strong internal audits to ensure the work carried out by councils are effective and credible.
He said that the purpose of internal audits is to avoid possible wrongdoing.
“Whether councils or any other institution, the strong internal audits are crucial for the most well-functioning institutions,” he said.
