Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has affirmed that the Parliament stands ready to support the government in effectively running the country.
The Speaker made the remarks while addressing a ceremony in Fonadhoo of Laamu Atoll, held as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to the inhabited islands of the atoll.
Speaking in Fonadhoo, which forms part of his constituency, the Speaker highlighted the government’s achievements so far. He noted the government’s greatest success is meeting its financial obligations without going bankrupt, and continuing to do what is necessary for the nation.
Noting that the government proposes key bills aimed at the development of the country and its people, the Speaker emphasised that members are ready to fulfil the hopes of the citizens.
"There will be no delay in any matters required to support the government of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu through Parliament. There will be no delay in passing important bills submitted by the government," he said.
Abdul Raheem noted the decision of the present government to develop Fonadhoo as an urban centre, and described the development projects signed as part of the ongoing visit as the largest and most significant set of projects to date.
During the ceremony, the agreement for the construction of the Maldives National University (MNU) campus building and language school in Fonadhoo was signed. Additional agreements include the establishment of an office complex in Fonadhoo, the third phase of the harbour development and road construction project, dredging and beach protection works, and the development and operation of Kadhdhoo Airport. The project for the establishment of a sports complex in Fonadhoo was also handed over at the meeting.
Abdul Raheem concluded by noting that the island’s residents are eagerly awaiting the day when the President inaugurates the projects upon its completion.
