Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has described the current administration as the most successful government the Maldives has ever seen.
He made the remarks on Monday evening while addressing constituents in Fonadhoo, Laamu atoll, during a visit by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Abdul Raheem, who played a key role in Muizzu’s 2023 presidential campaign, said the government’s success depends on public support for the President’s policies. “A government that begins with the people can only reach its goals if the people take it there,” he said.
He praised the President’s commitment to island visits despite poor weather, saying Muizzu’s engagement goes beyond podium speeches. “He meets councils, institutions, and the people to understand their needs and respond accordingly,” Abdul Raheem said, adding that this was a key reason voters elected Muizzu.

The President’s Office confirmed that Muizzu met with Fonadhoo’s Island Council, Women’s Development Committee, and local institutions to discuss development priorities, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Abdul Raheem also highlighted the President’s “enthusiasm and spirit” in serving the nation.
While Abdul Raheem remains chairman of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), he acknowledged in February that his relationship with the President had weakened following the dismissal of his son, Ibrahim Faisal, from the tourism minister post on January 28. Faisal had been one of Muizzu’s original cabinet appointees.
Despite Abdul Raheem’s admission of strained ties, PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falaah later denied any tension between the two leaders.
