Maldives Police Service has announced the seizure of 29 kilos of drugs under ‘Alimagu’, a nationwide counter-narcotic operation being carried out by the authority at the instructions of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
‘Alimagu’ is an operation aimed at capturing individuals involved in drug crimes including major traffickers.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday evening, the head of the Drug Enforcement Department, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Muslim, said that 500 police officers from across the country took part in the operation between November 1 and November 13.

The Police reported that during this period, the operation was carried out across 39 islands, where 105 locations—including nine vehicles and one vessel—were searched. A total of 110 suspects were arrested, and 29.68 kilos of drugs were seized.
According to Chief Inspector of Police Ahmed Naif, urine tests for 61 of the 110 suspects returned positive for various types of drugs. He added that although 38 suspects were taken to court for remand hearings, only those considered a threat to society have been placed in custody.

Muslim noted that the highest number of officers engaged in this operation simultaneously was in the early morning on November 13th.
He added that additional phases of the operation is set to be carried out in the near future.
