MDP turned away by Housing Ministry: 'No one of stature available to meet'

Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group members and general members have gathered in front of Dharubaaruge where Housing Ministry is currently based to meet Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib as part of the party’s ongoing serial protests.
The party’s parliamentary group members and general members gathered in front of Dharubaaruge on Sunday morning to protest.
Speaking to the press regarding the protest, Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir said the members went to Housing Ministry on Sunday to meet the Minister because some three months have passed without any response to questions submitted by MDP lawmakers.
Zakir said the protestors entered Housing Ministry after being denied the opportunity to meet with the Minister. However, he added that none of the political appointees in the Ministry came to meet with them despite waiting for a long time inside.
“After half an hour, they said no one [of stature] was available to meet at the moment. That they all left from the back door,” he said.

Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyadh (Fittey) said they could comprehend how difficult it would be for a member of the general public to get an answer for their queries if lawmakers have to go through this just to get an answer for their questions.
Notably, MDP’s parliamentary group members had protested in front of the Finance Ministry prior to this, in hopes of meeting Finance Minister Moosa Zameer. However, on the particular day, the Minister was abroad on a trip.
The main opposition party is also gearing up for a major rally on October 3rd.
