Maldives Sets Guinness Record with Stunning Fireworks Display to Open New Terminal

The stunning fireworks display to unveil Maldives main airport’s new international passenger terminal has broken the Guinness world record for the largest synchronised display to date.
The Guinness World Records presented the certificate to the Maldives Airports Company (MACL) at a ceremony held to welcome the first airline at the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Maldives on Saturday evening broke the world record for the largest number of simultaneous synchronised fireworks, set off from nine different locations across Male’, Hulhumale’ and the airport island Hulhule’.
Maldives entered the record books by comfortably surpassing the previous record of simultaneously setting off fireworks from five locations.
As many as 32 served as witnesses to the world record to ensure that the guidelines of the record book are met. The grand ceremony held at VIA on Saturday evening, featured a special report on the airport’s long history and developmental journey, followed by a special theatrical performance, highlighting the rich culture and proud heritage of the Maldives.
The performance was followed by hundreds of drones displaying key highlights of Maldives’ independence and the historical journey of VIA, capped off by the record breaking fireworks display.
