The Taxi Drivers’ Association has said their meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has renewed hope that their issues will be resolved.
With major hospitals, important government offices and an international airport, the Male’ area is the busiest and most demanding area in the Maldives. As a result, taxi services have become an essential service for the public.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to introduce a taxi line to address long-standing public concerns of the public about the service, which has, in turn, raised concerns among taxi drivers. These concerns have now been shared with the President.
Speaking to PSM News following the meeting, President of the Taxi Drivers’ Association Ibrahim Niyaz said the discussions with the President had renewed hopes of a positive outcome. While the President had listened to and acknowledged their concerns regarding the government’s taxi line, introduction of meters, heavy road traffic and inadequate parking, his response had been very positive, he noted.
