Renowned scholar Sheikh Ilyas Hussain has called on all not to waste the month of Ramadan in the pursuit of fun and sport.
He made the appeal speaking to the evening prayer congregation assembled in Thaiba mosque on Tuesday. Sheikh Ilyas said that Ramadan is an annual occurrence and that it lasted a month. Therefore, he argued that we all have to make best use of the month.
He added that it had become commonplace to see many engaged in other activities instead of prayer. Sheikh Ilyas said that it is prescribed in Islam that Muslims engage in prayer and recitation quran.
“However, we see that late into the night people are engaged in shows, sport tournaments. I wonder if Ramadan is the only time for such activities,” he said.
Sheikh Ilyas reminded that God had opened the avenues for seeking His mercy and had declared the month of Ramadan as a holy month. He also called on all to be more careful of observing dawn prayers in congregation due to the many benefits of doing so.
