Ali Solih corruption case submitted to PG

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has forwarded to Prosecutor General (PG) Office the case of alleged corruption carried out by former State Minister for Fisheries Ministry, Ali Solih.
A statement released by ACC stated that in the investigation the Committee conducted that it was apparent that Ali Solih had acted in a manner that had benefited a party in the lease of Sh. Maakandoodhoo and Sh. Ekasdhoo.
The statement added that when the announcement for the two islands were made, one of the applicants was, at that time, a Minister of the State. It has been reported by Haveeru News that the Minister in question was Dr. Maryam Shakeela, who was serving as Environment Minister in former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s cabinet.
ACC stated that the Ministry’s legal team had instructed that if such an agreement with the concerned party was signed, then it would be deemed that the Ministry was implicitly involved in carrying out an unconstitutional act.
ACC added that even though Ali Solih was aware that the concerned party in the lease of Ekasdhoo was a Minister, he had no intention of halting the agreement. Therefore, ACC had concluded that Ali Solih had used his influence in order to benefit another party.
