Vice President Mr.Abdullah Jihaad has called to stop smoking in all households of Maldives. He said this while speaking at the High Level Advocacy Forum held to control tobacco products.
He said that tobacco can be controlled only if everyone, works together to stop it. “Everyone in the house should just decide that no one can smoke inside the house and those who want to smoke should go outside tosmoke” said Jihaad.
Jihaad said that he never smoked and he never will do it. He also said that there is no one in his family who is a smoker. He advised everyone to work together against smokingand make all the families are non smoking families.
He further said that everyone should understand how dangerous tobacco is. “There are 7000 different chemicals in a cigarette. Around 70 of them are cancer causing carcinogens, everyone should know this” said Jihaad.
He said that the government is planning to increases taxes on tobacco products.
