Defense minister Adam Shareef has said that rumours about Azlif Rauf died in the war in Syria has not been confirmed yet. Azlif Rauf was charged with the murder of former Un'goofaaru constituency MP Dr. Afraasheem Ali.
Rumours say that Azlif went to Syria in January 2015. Azlif allegedly tried to take his wife, his one year old son and his four year old daughter along with him to Syria. The cause of death in Azlif's case has still not been confirmed, however many sources claim that he did die in the war in Syria. There have been no confirmed reports or evidence confirming Azlif's death and the how he died. However photos claiming his death have been circulating around on social media.
The police had sent Azlif's case to the Prosecutor General's office, requesting that he be officially charged with Dr.Afraasheem's murder. However he was not charged by the PG's office then. Azlif was also suspected of having a hand in the case of the missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
Azlif's family have also claimed that he had died in Syria. However, Defense Minister Adam Shareef has said that suspects connected to Afraasheem's murder had fled to Syria, and that there was no confirmation or evidence that indicates that the suspects had died. Minister also said that an investigation into this matter had been opened. Adam Shareef said that each report varied from another, and that was the main reason that the ministry had not been able to confirm Azlif's death.
Home Minister Umar Naseer had also said that Azlif's death had not been confirmed.
