Opposition lawmakers on their way to Parliament on Monday
Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) declared Tuesday that opposition lawmakers have taken away the prestige of the Parliament administration by breaking in to the parliament premises.
PPM made the statement regarding the conflict between opposition lawmakers and the military on Monday, when lawmakers forcefully entered the parliament after Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) locked the gates to the premises over security reasons. Claiming that efforts are being laid by the opposition to impede the peaceful environment which President Abdulla Yameen is trying to create, PPM accused the protesters of attempting to hinder constitutional rule by obstructing the duty of armed forces.
The statement also slammed the lawmakers and some citizens for violently forcing their way inside the parliament building. PPM noted that the individuals who barged in by scaling the walls and damaging the gates of the parliament were firmly requested not to damage parliament properties which they refused to abide.
Moreover, the statement acknowledged the efforts of security forces in protecting one of the most prestigious institutes of the nation.
Condemning the actions of the opposition, the ruling party called on them to refrain from repetitions. PPM also urged the authorities, by the name of the people, to investigate the opposition’s egregious actions,
