The People’s Majlis have approved the non-resident Ambassador of Maldives to Bhutan and Afghanistan and Ambassador of Maldives to Nepal، at the Seventh Sitting of the Second Session held today.
Ahmed Mohamed of G. Ufaa، was approved to the post of Ambassador of Maldives to Bhutan and Afghanistan with 54 unanimous votes in favour. There were 2 abstentions.
Ahmed Saleem of M. Huraa was approved to the post of Ambassador of Maldives to Nepal with a unanimous vote of 54.
Following the names proposed by President Abdulla Yameen، the National Security Committee of the Majlis reviewed the names، approved the names in a report which stated the committee has not objections of appointing them as Ambassadors to the respective countries،.
Ahmed Mohamed was previously the Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs، and before that the Commissioner General of Customs. He was also the Minister of Economic Developments during President Mohamed Waheed’s administration.
Article 115 (l) of the Constitution stipulates that the President shall have the power to appoint members of diplomatic missions to foreign countries and international organizations in consultation with the People’s Majlis.
