Home Minister Umar Naseer has stated that statements made by MDP had revealed that the party had strong connections to those going on jihad and therefore the government would seek to get MDP help to address the issue.
Speaking to Miadhu, Minister Umar said the former Foreign Minister Kerafa Ahmed Naseem had alleged that around 300 maldivians had departed to Syria, while MDP Deputy Leader Mohamed Shifaz had said they received information on those who were leaving. Minister Umar said this clearly shows a close connection between MDP and those individuals.
Minister Umar had requested MDP to supply the Government with the list of the 300 who had allegedly left the country for jihad.
He also said the Government needed MDP support to put an end to gangs and gang related violence.
“Violence stems from gangs and drugs. All of the drug kingpins are in MDP. Then take gangs. I’m not the one saying this, MDP had previously allege that all gangs are headed by Ahmed Adeeb, who is now a leader of MDP,”
He said that he hoped MDP, as the largest political party in the country, will act in a positive and responsible manner to resolve an issue plaguing both the nation and the nation’s youth.
