Chairperson of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ali Waheed has been released from Police custody.
Ali Waheed was released after the Prosecutor General authorized Police that there is no need to keep him in custody anymore.
Ali Waheed’s remand was extended two times; First time by 15 days and later by 7 days.
Criminal Court remanded Ali Waheed in Police custody after Police made a statement that Ali Waheed maybe a threat to the society.
Ali Waheed was arrested on the protest held at May 1st claiming that he made comments that made violence erupt in the protest.
Along was arrested along with Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla and JP deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim were arrested during the protest held on May 1st.
Ali Waheed is in the selected MDP’s delegation that will be negotiating with the government.
