Economic minister Fayyaz Ismail has created a committee to improve the tax system.
In a tweet on Thursday, the minister said that the committee comprises of government officials and private sector auditors and lawyers.
He said that the committee will identify issues arising in the implementation of the current tax laws and propose the necessary amendments to the tax regime.

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has stated that it missed MVR 197.9 million in yearly fees and fines in 2018 after 7,089 companies failed to pay the amount.
This include 5,772 companies dissolved by the Registrar of Companies in 2017, which owe MVR 189.6 million, and 1,317 companies which owe MVR 8.2 million.
