The Maldives has been awarded Bronze in the World’s Most Desirable Island(s) category at the 2025 Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, reaffirming its enduring appeal among international travellers and its particular resonance with the British market.
The award was accepted by Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), at a ceremony held at the National Gallery in London. The event brought together leading figures from across the global travel sector to recognise excellence in 22 categories, honouring destinations, tour operators, and airlines that exemplify meaningful and responsible tourism.
This year’s awards drew participation from 208,000 readers, who collectively cast 4.8 million votes to determine the winners. The results reflect the lived experiences and preferences of seasoned travellers, who continue to rank the Maldives among the world’s most desirable destinations.
“We are honoured to see the Maldives recognised once again by the readers of Wanderlust,” said Shiuree. “This recognition underscores the strong connection between the Maldives and British travellers, who continue to view our islands as a sanctuary of natural beauty, culture, and authentic experiences.”
Now in its 24th year, the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards are regarded as among the most respected accolades in the travel industry. The 2025 ceremony was hosted by British presenter, author, and adventurer Simon Reeve, and organised in partnership with Visit Oman. The awards continue to reflect the considered opinions of Wanderlust’s loyal readership.
