The Government of the Republic of Maldives has strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s preliminary approval of two draft laws aimed at extending Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied West Bank and legitimising control over illegal settlements.
In an official statement issued on 23 October 2025, the Maldives government labelled the move a “dangerous escalation” and a “clear and serious violation of international law,” warning that it significantly undermines prospects for a peaceful resolution in the region.
The Maldives renewed its call on the international community to take urgent and concrete action to halt further provocations, protect the rights of the Palestinian people, and hold Israel accountable for its continued violations in the occupied territories.
Reaffirming its long-standing support for the Palestinian cause, the Government reiterated its commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
