Maldives and Japan Discuss Key Areas of Cooperation During Courtesy Call

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Japanese Special Envoy Ikuina Akiko have reaffirmed the close ties between the Maldives and Japan during a courtesy call on Saturday.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, President Dr Muizzu warmly welcomed the Japanese delegation, expressing his gratitude for their visit to the Maldives to witness the Independence Day celebrations. The Special Envoy conveyed her deep honour at being invited to attend the commemorations marking the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence.
The President and the Special Envoy also reflected on the enduring partnership and close friendship between the Maldives and Japan, underscoring over five decades of people-to-people ties and bilateral cooperation. Their discussions covered a range of collaborative areas, including economic development, infrastructure, disaster resilience and management, telecommunications, and capacity-building.
Concluding the call, President Dr Muizzu expressed his hope for enhanced collaboration and further strengthening of existing relations. The Special Envoy reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and expanding avenues of cooperation.
