Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that when ethical standards in journalism are violated, it paves the way for the spread of misinformation, which could create unrest in a society.
The Vice President noted that the public relies on journalists to obtain accurate information.
In a social media post regarding press freedom, he said that "ethical journalism must ensure quality information, promote accountability and transparency while upholding the principles of democracy."
Additionally, he highlighted that when journalism strays from ethical standards, it can lead to the spread of misinformation, creating confusion and obstructing the public’s access to truthful information.
The Vice President also called on all journalists to act with greater responsibility in disseminating news and information, and to adhere to the fundamental principles and standards of journalism.
