Gov’t awards dredging and road projects in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll

Two key projects in Faresmathoda and Fiyoari of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll have been awarded to contractors.
Faresmathoda’s dredging and beach protection project was awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for USD 9.3 million. A total of 18 hectares of land will be dredged and 620 metres of rock revetted as part of the project, with a completion timeline of 270 days. The project aims to address housing shortages for the island, and to prevent flooding and coastal erosion.
Meanwhile, the Fiyoari road construction project was awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) for USD 4.6 million, with a completion timeline of 730 days.
Both projects are part of efforts for infrastructural development in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and their completion is expected to improve quality of life for residents in both islands.
