Logo launched to support products made by people with disabilities

The government has officially begun issuing the ‘Shamil’ (inclusive) logo to support and promote products crafted by individuals with disabilities, marking a significant step towards inclusive economic empowerment.
Unveiled in 2025 through a joint initiative by the Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Business Center Corporation (BCC), the Shamil logo establishes a recognised national brand identity that highlights the skills, creativity and contributions of persons with disabilities in the marketplace.
Designed to promote social inclusion and economic independence, the logo will be affixed to goods independently created by registered persons with disabilities, enabling consumers to easily identify and support their work.
Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham announced the launch during a press conference held at the President’s Office, stating that the initiative will both raise public awareness and increase demand for products made by persons with disabilities.
“When buyers see the Shamil logo, they will know they are purchasing something made by a person with special needs. This creates dignity, boosts confidence and opens doors to broader markets,” she said.
Dr Shiham noted that handicrafts produced by persons with disabilities are already being showcased at Velana International Airport, with discussions ongoing to expand Shamil-branded products to international platforms, including United Nations venues abroad.
To qualify for the logo, artisans must be registered on the National Disability Register, have created the product themselves and hold any required permits. Entrepreneurs can apply by downloading the application form from the BCC website at bcc.mv and submitting it via email to [email protected].
