ECM Publishes Voter Registry for Addu City Referendum

The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has published the register of eligible voters for the upcoming referendum on the composition of the Addu City Council.
On 5 October, the Cabinet approved administrative measures to conduct a referendum on the jurisdiction of Addu City, following a petition from some residents requesting changes to the composition of the Addu City Council. The decision was made in accordance with the Public Referendum Act.
The referendum will determine whether separate councils should be established for Addu Feydhoo, Addu Hulhudhoo and Addu Meedhoo. Voters will also decide whether to create a single council - Addu Hulhumeedhoo Council - to administer both Addu Hulhudhoo and Addu Meedhoo.
The ECM has scheduled the referendum for 25 October and has now released the list of eligible voters, opening it for complaints. A total of 9,557 individuals are now included in the voter registry.
The voting population is distributed as follows:
Meedhoo: 2,348 voters
Hulhudhoo: 2,874 voters
Feydhoo: 4,355 voters
The list has been published in the government gazette, on the ECM’s website, and at ward offices of Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo.
Complaints regarding the list are open until 03:00 pm on 12 October. Complaints can be submitted via the designated complaint form, available on the ECM website and at its office. The forms may be sent to the commission at [email protected].
A total of 18 ballot boxes will be set up for the referendum, including seven in Male’ City.
