A total of 10 awards were presented to eight tourism facilities at this year's Maldives Tourism Awards ceremony, held at Barcelo Nasandhura on Saturday.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Maldives Tourism Awards, given annually, aim to recognise outstanding individuals and companies contributing to the tourism sector. This year's awards were given to those nominated for the awards from June 2023 to May 2024.
This year’s awardees included tourist resorts, tourist hotels, dive centres, guesthouses, and travel agencies.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim announced that new award categories will be introduced in the future.
"Today, I would like to announce that additional categories will be included in the next tourism awards ceremony. These will include recognition for women’s empowerment, those who promote Maldivian culture and traditions, and a special category for individuals working in the tourism industry,” the Minister said.
