President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the Maldives’ hosting of the first Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship as a significant milestone for the nation in the international sporting arena.
In a social media post welcoming the participating teams and visitors to the Maldives, the President said it was a great honour and privilege for the country to host the inaugural event in Kulhudhuffushi City. He highlighted the tournament as a golden opportunity to showcase the people’s passion for sports while promoting the natural beauty of the country. He further said the tournament will draw attention and admiration to a nation known for its kindness and peaceful way of life.
The President also extended his best wishes to competing teams, and expressed hope that the Maldivian national team would secure a victory to make the nation proud.
The Commonwealth Beach Handball Tournament, a newly introduced tournament, will be held in the Maldives from 18 to 22 September at the international-standard beach handball courts in Kulhudhuffushi City.
According to the tournament’s organiser, Handball Maldives, the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, and the Maldives Olympic Committee, along with the Kulhudhuffushi City Council and the sponsors and partners of the tournament are providing substantial support in staging the tournament. The beach handball courts were developed by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council.
Public Service Media, PSM is the media partner of the tournament. The tournament will be broadcast live on PSM's Yes TV. This marks the first international beach handball tournament to be held in the Maldives.
