President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom defended Prophet Mohammed ﷺ in his speech at Progressive Congress Coalition initiated gathering “Nabiyyage Dhifauga” held last night for all citizens of the country in Carnival Area, in protest against slandering of Prophet Mohammed ﷺ by BJP officials.
In the ceremony, event of the serial protest against slandering of Prophet Mohammed ﷺ, President Yameen said that it was not a coincidence that BJP slandered Prophet Mohammed ﷺ. In the current political and national ripple, the spokesperson’s action is related to Islamic community.
In his speech, President Yameen gave many examples regarding Rahmatun-lil-Alamin (mercy to all mankind) Prophet Mohammed ﷺ that on the terrifying Day of Resurrection people belonging to each Ummah will ask their prophets to intercede for them to Allah but they will all say they are not fit to do so except Prophet Mohammed ﷺ who will intercede and his intercession will be accepted.
President Yameen said the governments’ nonchalant statement regarding the issue was concerning. Any community will not endure offence to their religion or tradition, yet India allows such actions. He said that this is the actions of the country Maldives government is fighting for and are hesitant to correct.
President Yameen further said that “Hindutva” Movement is not just a religious or political movement it is an ideology that advocated for Hindu supremacy to create a Hindu Kingdom by Hindu extremists.
On May 28th, BJP’s spokesperson Nupur Sharma used derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammed SAW at a debate held by Indian national TV. She also insulted the Holy Quran and tried to spread anger and hatred towards it.
The issue came to world attention and many Islamic countries condemned the remarks. After several days of the incident and with public’s pressure, government of Maldives released a statement condemning the remarks. But still in the statement Maldives praised and expressed gratitude to BJP which was criticized by many citizens.
