High Court order in Usfasgandu case to be appealed

Mayor Maizaan Ali Manik on Wednesday night during the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally held just adjacent to Usfasgandu as it had been cordoned off by Police insisted that the streets of Male are under the care of the City Council and said “when one place is expropriated we will move on to the next.” “When this place is taken tomorrow we will give the permit from another. That is for the beloved Maldivian people. I don’t want the Maldivian people to be destroyed,” Mayor said. Usfasgandu was issued by the City Council to MDP to hold its political activities. The seven days given by the Civil Court to the City Council to handover Usfasgandu to the Housing Ministry ended on Tuesday. The Council had filed an appeal of the Civil Court ruling at the High Court. The High Court ruling stated the Police must not take any action to vacate the area and the area must not be given to any party until the court decides on the appeal.
