Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that there are no organizations or individuals in Maldives that facilitates terrorism.
In a meeting held at the Coast Guard building today, the minister said that the research conducted by the Counter Terrorism Center shows that there are no organizations or individuals that supports or facilitates terrorism in Maldives. He said that such stories are spread by those who want to harm the country. He said that there are no organizations that provide financial support to terrorism either.
Adam Shareef said that those who spread stories saying that Maldives is a hotbed for terrorism, are just people who wants to destroy the tourism industry of Maldives.
He said that only few Maldivians has joined terrorist activities abroad and they are youths who join these activities without properly knowing what they are getting into. The minister said that the Maldives is a peaceful country and that the government will never support terrorism in anyway.
The director of Counter Terrorism Center, Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor said that people from Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia also takes part in terrorist activities and that it is a problem faced by all the countries. He said that in Maldives so far only 49 people participated in such activities.
