Presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen has said that if PPM wins the presidential election, they would establish a government in which all parties except for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are represented.
Yameen made this remark while speaking at a PPM rally in carnival area last night, themed ‘Say No’ to MDP candidate Nasheed.
“God willing, we will establish a government led by the PPM-MDA coalition, including all political parties. That is, a government including all political parties other than MDP. Our government would be a people’s government,” said Yameen.
Yameen said that the people want peace and order, and that this can only be established by solving the problems faced by the country today.
He said that the main element of the next government would be upholding rule of law.
“Nasheed has said no to rule of law. That’s not what the people want. That’s not a people’s government,” he said.
Yameen said that Nasheed’s government established in 2008 was not a people’s government, and that they undermined the constitution and obstructed the duties of independent institutions.
Yameen said that PPM and other political parties protested against Nasheed’s government’s efforts to undermine independent institutions, but Nasheed’s government paid no attention to those calls.
He said that the people want to have wealthy, comfortable lives, but Nasheed’s government, during their three years in power, said no to facilitating this for the people; and for this reason, the people of Maldives should ‘Say No’ to Nasheed on 28 September.
Yameen said that senior posts in his government would be held by people of parties other than PPM, and even people who do not belong to any party would have the opportunity to sincerely serve the country.
IDP joined PPM at last night’s rally, following which Yameen thanked IDP for joining forces with PPM to work against Nasheed. He assured that officials of IDP will be included in a PPM-MDA government.
PPM said that members of Jumhooree Party (JP), Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Gaumee Itthihad Party (GIP), and Adhaalath Party attended last night’s rally.
All parties except MDP will be represented in the next government: Yameen
