Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Ali Whaheed has said that Election Commission will be taken to the Court due to MDP being fined with MVR 47،000.
Speaking at a gathering held by the “Maldivian’s against Brutality” coalition، Ali Waheed accused the decision was made to protect the jobs of the 5 members of the Election Commission and stated the decision was illegal.
Ali Waheed further stated that the decision was taken without a chance to respond and affirmed that MDP will not accept the decision.
Ali Waheed had questioned the role of Election Commission’s when opposition come into the protests with sharp objects and vandalized the property.
MDP Chairperson had accused Election Commission stating that the Commission is planning to eradicate Adhaalath Party and MDP and affirmed that even though the two parties are eradicated، they will sustain in voicing against brutality.
An issue released by the Elections Commission states that MDP and Adhaalath Party were fined for the violation of the law of political parties and the law of peaceful protests by attacking the police، vandalizing property and for calling for violence.
Adhaalath Party has been fined with MVR 33،000 and MDP is fined with MVR 47،000. Election Commission has given notice to two parties to pay the fine within 7 days.
