"Release Nasheed or conduct a fair trial" – Amnesty

The Amnesty International has called on the immediate release of the former president Mohamed Nasheed who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terror charges، or to conduct a new fair and free trial on him.
In a publication، the Amnesty said they cannot accept that the government has decided not to adhere to the opinion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on Nasheed’s case.
The publication of the Amnesty further stated that not adhering to the opinion of the WGAD shows that the government has zero to no interest in establishing an independent judiciary.
Amnesty also said the trial was sham and politically motivated.
In addition، Amnesty stated that there are many persons who were jailed after politically motivated trials.
