Economic Minister Muhammad Saeed have said that, among the products of Maldives, products from coconut has huge support and it was the second most well received product at the Kunming fair last year.
Minister Saeed said that unlike before, the coconut oil produced today is very clear and has a huge demand globally. Also, other by products in the process such as soap also has a great demand according to the Minister.
“ There is a huge global demand for cold pressed coconut oil now “ said Minister Saeed. He said that if more products from coconut are produced in Maldives, the support will increase. He said that products such as sun lotion can be made too.
Minister said that Maldivians usually import one type of salt, but there are other types of salt used in high end restaurants. He said that, salt can be produced in Maldives, and that it would be a great marketing strategy to say that it was produced in Maldives. He said that the government will only get involved in producing something after ensuring that it will not affect small businesses.
He made these statements while speaking to the press about activities that can be carried out at the SME center planned to be constructed in Hulhumale.
