The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported strong interest in its ongoing walk-in interviews for recruiting drivers to operate the Government’s new taxi line service.
MTCC, which will manage the service under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, is seeking both full-time and part-time drivers to support the initiative. A total of 407 drivers are required, comprising 285 full-time positions and 122 part-time roles.
The company stated that a large number of applicants have been attending the walk-in interviews being held today at the Maafannu Bus Terminal. Interviews are taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Government-operated taxi line is being introduced to address public difficulties in accessing reliable taxis and to offer a more convenient and dependable transport option. In response to parliamentary questions last month, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen confirmed that the service is expected to launch by January.
The fleet will consist of 100 per cent environmentally friendly electric vehicles in three size categories and will provide 24-hour service. The system will be supported by a dedicated mobile application, similar to international ride-hailing platforms, to enable easy bookings and efficient service management.
