Breadfruit trees planted in Hanimaadhoo under the Five Million Trees Programme

The Hanimaadhoo Council in Haa Dhaalu Atoll has planted breadfruit trees on the island.
According to Firag Mohamed, Vice President of the Hanimaadhoo Council, this activity was carried out on the island to support the 5 Million Trees Planting Programme, which was pledged by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Firag stated that 50 breadfruit trees were planted in this round.
Firag also mentioned that this initiative was led by the Hanimaadhoo Council to fulfill President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge of planting five million trees.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the 5 Million Trees Planting Programme, which he had pledged, on June 5, 2024. President Muizzu planted the first tree to launch the programme. On that day, he planted a *Kaaboli Arolhi* tree. This tree, which can grow up to 35 meters long, is used in traditional Maldivian medicine. It is a species that is now rarely seen in the Maldives.
President Muizzu announced his decision to implement a programme to plant 5 million trees during his five-year term at “COP28,” the largest meeting held to discuss environmental matters. The programme was officially launched in connection with World Environment Day.
