Three migrants have been arrested on suspicion of engaging in wide-scale trade of alcohol.
Maldives Police Service identified the suspects as two Bangladeshi men – aged 19 and 27 – and a Pakistani man, aged 24.
According to the Police, officers patrolling Hulhumale’ Phase II found three suspects in possession of several boxes near Flat No. 100, which they deemed suspicious. Subsequently, they searched the boxes and discovered 232 500ml bottles containing liquid suspected to be alcohol.
The search of the residence of one of the suspects led to the discovery of an additional 49 500ml bottles containing liquid suspected to be alcohol, the Police added.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
Notably, a total of seven migrants including three Nepali women on suspicion of possession of alcohol during operations carried out by the Police on October 16th and October 19th. Four of them have been deported; all Nepalese.
