Police launch ‘Police MV’ app with direct case updates, cyber portal to tackle scams

Maldives Police Service on Monday launched a new mobile application, Police MV, designed to allow the public to communicate directly with investigating officers and track updates on cases filed with the police.
The app was unveiled at a ceremony held at Iskandhar Barracks by State Minister for Home Affairs Dr. Mohamed Kinaanath. According to the Home Ministry, its most distinctive feature is the ability for complainants to contact the officer handling their case and receive updates on its progress.
Other services available through the app include:
Information on scams
Case reporting and evidence submission
Requests for police certificates
Verification of police certificates
Contact details for neighborhood police
Reporting lost, found, or missing items and sightings

In addition to the app, Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen launched a new cyber portal at the ceremony. The portal enables users to report suspected cybercrimes and search for suspicious links, messages, phone numbers, and email addresses connected to scams. Officials said the platform will strengthen efforts to identify and prevent cybercrime in society.
The event also featured demonstrations of the Police Fleet Management System, Entry Management System, and Infrastructure Projects System.
While the new tools aim to improve transparency and public access, police have faced criticism in recent months over declining public confidence. Critics argue that political influence undermines investigations and that cases are not always handled fairly.
