Won't allow criminal offences in the name of politics: Home Minister

In an interview with Haveeru, Home Minister stressed that the government would always welcome peaceful political events but warned action if criminal offences are carried out in the name of political activities. “It doesn’t matter if the Inquiry Commission releases a report or any other institution publishes a report, political activities must be conducted peacefully. Our top most priority is to maintain peace and stability in the country. We will not fail to safeguard the property of the people and uphold the constitution,” Home Minister pledged. Jameel further stressed that the government was willing to do whatever is necessary to establish a peaceful atmosphere in the country. Maldives Police Service had stated earlier that the police lines were prepared to protect the people from the potential violence that might ensue the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) established to investigate the events leading up to and following the transfer of power, due Thursday.
