Hearings on Feydhoo girl case concluded

The hearings on the case appealed in High Court, regarding the Civil Court ruling wherein a 15-year-old girl from Shaviyani Feydhoo was convicted of fornication and sentenced to lashes, have been concluded today.
Media Official of High Court Ameen Faisal said that the hearings commenced this morning, and were concluded after a second hearing this afternoon.
He said that if nothing else needs to be clarified regarding the case, the verdict will be delivered at the next session.
Ameen Faisal said that the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) had intervened in this case.
The State has charged the mother and stepfather of the 15-year-old girl with murder, after the girl’s baby died allegedly due to the negligence of the mother and stepfather.
The stepfather has also been charged with having sexual relations with a minor for raping the girl while acting as her guardian, as well as for possession of pornographic material.
The 15-year-old girl has been under State care since the incident. The Juvenile Court has ordered to keep her in Kudakudhinge Hiya (children’s shelter) until her sentence is executed.
