Seven member committee to probe Nasheed's case

After accepting the resolution against Nasheed submitted to the Parliament by Kaashidhoo constituency MP Abdulla Jabir, The Parliament passed a seven member committee comprising of Thoddoo constituency MP Ali Waheed, Fares-Maathodaa constituency MP Ibrahim Mutholib, Guraidhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Riza, Jabir, Villi-Maafannu constituency MP Ahmed Nihan, Vilufushi constituency MP Riyaz Rasheed and Kinbidhoo constituency MP Moosa Zameer. Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed is the only opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP in the committee proposed by Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Shareef and supported by Maavashu MP Abdul Aziz Jamal Abu-Bakr. The committee was approved by 44 votes in favor while 24 members of the Parliament had voted against the constitution of the committee. Since action was taken against former President Ibrahim Nasir for his unlawful deeds, Jabir while speaking on the resolution had called for similar action against a President of the Maldives, highlighted some of the illegal actions by Nasheed during his term as President. The points include the lockout of Supreme Court, defying orders of the Courts, issuing illegal orders, unconstitutional acts against the Judges as the Commander in Chief. In addition, misuse of State resources and the blatant actions to undermine the economy and policies of the Maldives, Jabir detailed.
