Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said that the device found by fishermen sailing in Huvadhoo is not a threat.
MNDF’s Information Officer Hussain Ali told Vaguthu that device is understood to be used for marine surverying، and that authorities are looking into it to get more information on it.

“It appears to have been used for marine surveying، so it poses no real threat.” MNDF’s Information Officer said.
Hussain Ali added reports of multiple aircrafts patrolling the area where the device was found are being investigated.
The device was discovered، and reported to Police as well as MNDF by local fishermen، who also reported the presence of multiple aircrafts above it.
“It was unclear what country or airline operated the them، but they were flying about 400 feet high patrolling the area where the device was found.”، a crew from a passer by vessel said.

According to an Aviation Authority official، the authority is investigating reports of 2 military aircraft sightings above Huvadhoo sea.
