Cities minister calls state broadcaster a ‘crucial partner’ in nation-building

Public Service Media is a "crucial partner" in the nation’s broader effort of nation-building, Adam Shareef Umar, the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, said at a ceremony at the PSM television building. Speaking at an event to announce the results of the ‘Ranmuiy’ Islamic recital competition, Minister Adam Shareef said the state broadcaster’s initiatives provide significant platforms for developing student talent across the nation.
“Through the opportunities provided by such competitions, I believe that PSM is today emerging as a crucial partner in the development of the Maldives,” the minister said. Religious and cultural competitions are fundamental to the foundational work of nation-building, Minister Adam Shareef added, noting that the broadcaster provides diverse opportunities to children and individuals from various demographics.
The ‘Ranmuiy’ competition, a prominent broadcast event held during the holy month of Ramadan, attracted 126 young participants this year. For the second consecutive year, Ihthisaam Ibrahim, from Naifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, secured the overall first-place victory.
Ahmed Shakeeb, the managing director of PSM, said the public’s backing is essential for the continued success of such developmental initiatives. “Through PSM's channels, we are actively working within the community to cultivate strong, positive characteristics and develop essential skills across all segments of society, including children, youth, and adults,” Shakeeb said.
In every one of these endeavours, the broadcaster requires the cooperation of its viewers, he added. The competition achieved its anticipated broadcasting objectives while drawing significant participation from the country’s youth.
