Villimalé tertiary hospital construction to begin mid-year

Construction of the tertiary hospital planned for Villimalé is set to begin this year, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said.
The project was originally announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a special ceremony held in Villimalé in November last year.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a 300-unit housing project being developed by the Bank of Maldives (BML) in Villimalé, Minister Muththalib said construction of the hospital is expected to commence in July or August.
The 112-bed facility will be developed as a tertiary-level hospital on a site covering 12,890 square metres.
The hospital will include outpatient and emergency services, diagnostic and treatment facilities, medical wards and administrative offices. The Chinese government will provide the medical equipment and furnishings required to deliver tertiary-level healthcare services.
The project was awarded to a Chinese company in January.
The development of a tertiary hospital in Villimalé was a key pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
